Self-priming mag-drive pump – SMX
IWAKI’s self-priming centrifugal pump SMX is filmed in a test setup where the pump will lift the fluid (water) from a tank 4 meters down. The demo model is made of plexiglas, so you can see how the pump works.
How does the self-priming work?
When starting up the pump, water in the built-in self-priming chamber ensures that the pump has some fluid to work with. There must be fluid around the impeller for the self-priming effect to work.
A special design with two pump chambers
The special design with two pump chambers enable the pump to mix air and liquid, thus evacuating the air in the suction pipe and out on the pressure side of the pump. The video clearly shows, how the liquid is sucked up 4 meters through the tube and into the pump.
A very short priming time
When all air is evacuated and the suction pipe is filled with liquid, SMX acts as a normal centrifugal pump. At the same time the pump is automatically filled with liquid and ready. The priming time is very short, depending on the density of the liquid, but for cold water priming time is about 90 seconds at a height of 4 meters.
